Some people...

This-or-That is gone forever:

This-or-That is gone forever...at least from my servers!

Thanks to all who played, and were appreciative of my work.

The reason it is gone for good is that I was pushed too far by people who took the meme TOO DAMNED SERIOUSLY. I have always considered this to be a hobby, and when it stopped being fun, I would stop doing it. That day has come. It's not fun when people get up my ass about not liking the questions, or when am I gonna put the site back up? Yes, the brunt of it all has fallen upon ME. And I am SICK of it. Literally.

It's sad. It was fun, and I know lots of people enjoyed it, but really, was it necessary to hound the creator, because you didn't like the questions she posted? or because the site was on hiatus, because she needed a break? Good lord! Do what I did! Make up your own damned questions! Skip a week! Read a book! Jump in a lake! Anything. But no, you had to ruin a good, fun thing.

Dickheads.

My answers are below:

  1. Down pillow or synthetic - Synthetic, baby. Can't have a bunch of ducks running around naked, just so I can have a nice pillow.
  2. Waterbed or traditional - I had a waterbed for many years. Too much of a pain, and not as comfortable as waterbed fans claim. No, I prefer traditional, thanks.
  3. Window open or closed at night - Open. A bit of fresh air helps me sleep better. Even if it's -30C outside.
  4. Night light or darkness - Shut off that damn light, will you? I'm tryin' t'sleep here!
  5. "natural sounds" tape or quiet - Good lord, why would I want to sleep in the jungle? There be lions out there!
  6. King Size bed or Queen Size - Currently a Queen Size, but we want a King. With just us, it's ok... barely. But when our three year old climbs in, and our cat...
  7. Left side or Right side - I sleep on the left, my wife on the right. And our son, *all* of the bed. And our cat? on top of one or other of us.
  8. Comforter or blankets - Depends on the weather. Cold of winter, a comforter. Spring or Fall, blankets. Summer? as little as possible.
  9. Night cap or hot chocolate - Neither. Coffee or a Slurpee®, most likely.
  10. Alarm clock or wake naturally - Alarm clock during the week, wake naturally (read: when our son wakes) on weekends.

  3. Coffee or Tea - Coffee. Although just about anything with caffeine will do in a pinch. Coffee.
  4. Apples or Oranges - Apples. Or maybe oranges. Who could choose?
  5. White or Wholewheat - wholewheat, of course. Why would I buy something that has had all the nutrition removed, and then a few vitamins and minerals added back to make it not-quite-so-useless?
  6. Foreign or Domestic wine1 - Canadian wine has come a long way. There are some excellent vintages out there. Ask your local wine merchant/pusher

  8. Whole milk or skim - We drink mostly 2%, but 1% or whole will do in a pinch. Skim is right out. Ick.

This-or-that for July 1, 2003 (a day late? pah!)

1. Lemonade or Ice Cold Beer? - Lemonade. We've still got beer in the fridge from when my brother was here last July.
2. Swimming pool or beach? - yes. Swimming! Yay!
3. Long weekends here & there, or a 2-week vacation? - 2-week vacation! Long weekends help, but they aren't enough...
4. Destination: Acapulco or Hawaii? - Australia, thanks.
5. Destination: Mountains or Beach? - Mountains. Rockies. Canadian Rockies.
6. Hotel/motel/B&B or camping? - I think it's been at least 20 years since I last went camping...
7. Carefully planned vacation, or play it by ear? - I like to play it by ear.
8. Sneakers or sandals? - most of the year, runners (sneakers? wuzzat?). Sandals in -30C/-22F is just a bit, umm... silly? (yes, one of my brothers does wear sandals all year round. Wierdo.

4. Do you allow comments on your blog, or not? - of course I do. Not that I get many, but if you wanna comment, please do so! :)
5. Do you shop online at all, or at regular stores? - online only if it's something a local merchant cannot get for me.
6. Have you ever done online bill-paying/banking, or not? - always.
7. Which news site do you prefer... MSNBC.com or CNN.com? Or do you prefer some other one? - CBC.ca, or canoe.ca, or canada.com, or... you get the idea. :)
8. Live chat rooms, or message boards? - "Live chat rooms"? uhhh... I'm old school. IRC, please.
9. Instant messaging or e-mail? - Yes. Depends what I want say, and how urgent and time-sensitive it is.
10. Yes or no: have you ever met, or at least talked on the phone with, another blogger? If not, would you want to? Why or why not? - well, I'm married to a blogger. Does that count? Of course, we know many bloggers, and would meet with others. It's just one more "initial contact" method.

2. "The Sopranos" or the "Godfather" movies? - I've tried to watch "The Sopranos", but just haven't been able to get into it. I dunno. "The Godfather" was a great movie. The sequels? Not so much.
3. "The Jetsons" or "Lost in Space"? - "Lost in Space", no contest.
4. "Superman" or "Batman" (TV shows or movies)? - "Nanananananana! BAT MAN!"
5. "Sex & The City" or "Friends"? - "Friends". The other is an over-rated piece of [expletive deleted].
6. "The Wizard of Oz" or the "Harry Potter" movies? - Unfair to make us choose. Apples to oranges.

Today's This-or-That:

1. Poetry or prose? - Prose, baby. I like some poetry - and no, it doesn't start with "There was a..."
2. Funky modern art or the older, "classic" variety? - I guess the "classic" variety. I mean, if a dog barfing on newspaper can be called "modern" art, I don't think I really care for it...
3. Sculptures or paintings? - I like them both. In moderation.
4. Theatre: exuberant musical or serious drama? - yes. More likely the "serious drama", but both have their place.
5. Ballet or modern dance? - ew!! Ew ew ew ew ew! No, I'm not a fan of dance of either variety, even though my wife has danced both.
6. Movies: major studio or indie? - want effects? go with Major Studio. Want it to be interesting, try indie.
7. Authors: Shakespeare or Dr. Seuss? - Yes.
8. TV: PBS or A&E? - PBS. A&E has some good stuff, but a whole lot of crap, too...
9. Music: Beethoven or Beatles? - Yes.
10. Thought-provoking question of the week: You are a contributing member of your favorite art museum, and visit on a regular basis. They announce a new, temporary special exhibit by an artist surrounded by controversy...this person's work and/or political views offend you. Do you stop supporting the museum, or just stay away during the time the exhibit is there? - Oh, please... if I had money to give to an art museum, that would not give me the right to tell them what is or is not art. I'm a geek. What do I know from art? (although I might have a word with the curator, if they display newspapers with dog barf on them...)

1. Cold frosty ski slopes or warm sandy beach? - Yes. I have to choose?
2. Chevy or Ford? - Eww! American Autos! (My Toyota has been faithful for almost 9 years now...)
3. Mac or PC? - PC. Mac is wonderful, but Apple lost the war many years ago...
4. Dial-up or high speed internet access? - High Speed. I couldn't go back to dial-up now. No way...
5. Small *family-only* wedding or large 200+ guest wedding? - family-only, and a few good friends.
6. Would you rather be the bridesmaid or the bride? (if you are a guy, substitute best man or groom) - Well, I'm married, so... groom isn't available. I *am* available for the Best Man position, tho'...
7. AC/DC or ABBA? - AC/DC?!? I wanna keep my braincells, thanks. ABBA! For sure.
8. Roses or daisies? - Roses, of course. Daisies are boring. (Actually, I don't really care. A flower is a flower...)
9. Trashy romance novels or classic literature? - Trashy romance novels are ok when you've got a bad case of insomnia. Cures it in no time! Otherwise, give me a good classic, any day!
10. NEW! Thought-provoking question of the week...If you had to choose one...would you rather be blind or deaf? Why? - Deaf. While I'd miss being able to hear, it would be much easier to adapt to the world of silence than to the world of darkness. I'm a very visual person, so losing my sight would be devastating.

1. Married or single? - Married, since September 1998
2. Knit or crochet? - I knitted a "thing" about 3 feet long when I was about 14, just to show I could do it. Then I undid it, rolled up the yarn again and gave it back to my mother.
3. Homebody or world traveller? - World Traveller until I was 23. Since then - nada.
4. "Star Search" or "American Idol"? - Are you MENTAL?!? I don't want my brain to melt...
5. Dancing or karaoke? - I can't sing, so definitely not Karaoke. Unfortunately, I can't dance, either...
6. Elvis Presley or Elvis Costello? - Mr. Costello, of course. Mr. Presley has left the building.
7. Bus or train? - train's much more comfortable. And a train ride through the rockies, or any other large spectacular mountain range, is amazing!
8. Batman or Superman? - Batman has a cool Batsignal, sure, but Superman is the Man of Steel!
9. Chocolate or vanilla? - Chocolate, of course. From the Church of Bernard, of course.
10. Which came first...the chicken or the egg? - the egg, of course. The bird that laid the egg wasn't quite a chicken.

1. Soup or salad? - what? I have to choose? Can't I have both? Well, if I must choose, then salad.
2. Hot or cold sandwiches? - cold. Hot are good, but only now and then.
3. White or whole wheat bread (or rye, etc)? - multigrain. Dempster's Multigrain Flax is delicious, and good for you, too!
4. Pack a lunch for work/school, or buy it? - I prefer to pack it, but... all too often, I buy. Tsk.
5. If you eat out...fast-food chain, or mom & pop type place? - fast-food chain. Usually.
6. Tuna or chicken salad? - yecch to both! heavens!
7. Cheese: Swiss or cheddar (or American, etc)? - Swiss or cheddar. And what the heck is "American" cheese?
8. Mustard or mayo? - yes.
9. Sandwiches: wrap/pita pocket, or regular bread/roll? - regular bread.
10. Sweet stuff: cookie/cake or fresh fruit? - fresh fruit, baby!


Note: not much in th way of personal entries here lately, because I just really haven't felt up to it. If something changes significantly - for better or for worse - I shall document it, but... the status quo still sucketh.

My This or That for this week

1. Bacon or sausage? - sausage
2. Eggs: scrambled or not? - scrambled for the family, sunny side up if we eat out.
3. French toast or regular toast? - regular toast.
4. Pancakes or waffles? - pancakes.
5. Muffins or bagels? - bagels, toasted with a bit of butter.
6. Coffee or tea? - definitely **coffee**. Tea is for later in the day.
7. Juice: orange or grapefruit? - orange juice.
8. Hot or cold cereal? - usually oatmeal. Hot.
9. To put in cereal: bananas or strawberries (or some other fruit)? - I put raisins in the oatmeal, does that count?
10. Eat breakfast at home or at a restaurant? - at home. Remember last week? We don't eat out...:)

This or That Tuesday...

This is my first crack at a This or That Tuesday... here goes...

1. Morning or night person? - no question. Night Owl since as long as I can remember.
2. Heavy or light sleeper? - as a child, incredibly heavy sleeper. Now? Moderate-to-light, I think.
3. Remember your dreams or not? - as a kid, usually. Now, not often.
4. Do you need a lot of sleep, or just a little? - I function quite nicely on 5 hours a night - with an occasional 12 hour sleep to reset my clock.
5. Do you need something like a nightlight or TV to sleep, or do you prefer complete darkness? - the darker the better, thanks.
6. Flannel sheets or some other kind? - whatever is on the bed, thanks.
7. One pillow, or more? - one relatively thick pillow, or 2 thin pillows.
8. Bedroom door opened or closed at night? - door open, thanks... the better to hear our three-year-old. Not to mention that the cat would scratch the @#%$@$#$ out of the door if we were to close it! :)
9. Wrap yourself into blankets like a cocoon, or just cover yourself with them? - depends on how cold the room is.
10. Alarm clock: wake to music or buzzer? - music & buzzer, repeatedly. I'm a Night Owl, remember?
